Using SSH for Server Management
Guide to securely accessing your site via Command Line
SSH allows developers and advanced users to control their files and execute commands directly on the server efficiently.
- 1Schritt 1
Enable SSH
In cPanel, find 'SSH Access' and click 'Manage SSH Keys'. Generate a New Key or import your own.
- 2Schritt 2
Authorize Key
After generation, the key will show as 'Not Authorized'. Click 'Manage' then 'Authorize' to enable it.
- 3Schritt 3
Connect via PuTTY or Terminal
Use PuTTY (Windows) or Terminal (Mac/Linux). Type command: ssh [email protected] -p 22 (replace username with cPanel user).
- 4Schritt 4
Basic Commands
You can now use Linux commands like 'ls' (list files), 'cd' (change directory), 'unzip', and 'wp' (WP-CLI for WordPress).
Important Warnings
- SSH access is powerful; one mistake can permanently delete files.
- Never share your Private Key with anyone.
- We use custom ports on some servers; check the welcome email.
- Use WP-CLI to manage WordPress (update, install plugins) lightning fast.
